Troops, Forest Guards Intercept Suspected Stolen Livestock, Arrest Suspects in Kebbi

A joint security operation involving troops of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and members of the Forest Guards has led to the interception of a vehicle allegedly transporting suspected stolen livestock in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation, aimed at curbing livestock rustling and other rural crimes, was reportedly carried out during a routine fighting patrol along the Kangiwa–Kamba Road in the early hours of July 7.

According to information shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the joint security team became suspicious of a vehicle travelling through the area at about 6:28 a.m. and stopped it for a search.

The search reportedly led to the recovery of 14 goats, four rams, one mobile phone and ₦17,600 in cash, all believed to be connected to the suspected criminal activity.

The suspects were immediately taken into custody and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution. The recovered livestock and other exhibits were also transferred to the police as part of the ongoing investigation.

Security sources said the operation forms part of intensified efforts by security agencies to tackle livestock rustling, banditry and other crimes affecting rural communities across Kebbi State and the wider North-West region.

Authorities have continued to strengthen collaboration between the military, police and local security outfits in a bid to improve intelligence gathering and disrupt criminal networks operating in vulnerable communities.
