Two Vigilantes Killed, Three Injured in Suspected Gunmen Attack in Plateau

At least two vigilantes were reportedly killed and three others injured after suspected gunmen attacked their duty post in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 11pm at Angwan Tsarki, a settlement in Mangor, while the vigilantes were on duty.

A resident, Bitrus Simon, told newsmen that the attackers opened fire on the vigilantes, killing two and injuring three others. He condemned the incident and called for stronger security measures to protect residents and those involved in community security efforts.

The report of the Mangor attack had not been independently confirmed by the Plateau State Police Command as of press time. Efforts to reach security operatives for confirmation were reportedly unsuccessful.

The incident comes amid another shooting in Plateau State that was confirmed by the police. The Plateau State Police Command said seven people were injured when gunmen attacked a vehicle carrying traders along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 4:30pm on October 4, 2026, as the traders were returning from Kara Market in Bukuru. Seven injured victims were traced to the Military Clinic at Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving treatment.

Police spokesman SP Alfred Alabo said Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take full charge of the case and ensure that those responsible were identified, arrested and prosecuted. Tactical and anti-robbery teams were also deployed to strengthen security in the area.

The Command urged residents to remain calm, continue with their lawful activities and report suspicious movements or activities to the security agencies. The police said further developments on the Bukuru Expressway investigation would be communicated as the probe progresses.
