UK Visa-Free Countries: Full List of 21 Nations That Can Travel to Britain Without a Visitor Visa

Planning a trip to the United Kingdom? Citizens of several countries can enter the UK without applying for a traditional visitor visa, making travel easier for millions of tourists and business travellers around the world.

The UK government allows nationals from many countries to visit for up to six months without a visitor visa. While most eligible travellers must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before departure, Irish citizens remain exempt from both the visa and ETA requirements under the Common Travel Area agreement.

Visitors travelling under the visa-free arrangement can generally enter the UK for tourism, family visits, business meetings, or short-term study courses, provided they meet the country’s immigration rules and border requirements.

Among the countries whose citizens do not need a traditional UK visitor visa are the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Israel, Malaysia, Brunei, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

Citizens from most European countries also enjoy visa-free access for short visits. These include France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and several others. However, with the exception of Ireland, most European travellers are now required to obtain an ETA before travelling.

The UK introduced the Electronic Travel Authorisation system as part of efforts to strengthen border security while simplifying entry procedures for travellers from visa-exempt countries. The ETA is a digital travel permission and does not replace a visa for those who require one.
