Veteran Nollywood Actor Taiwo Adeshina, Popularly Known as Elegbeje Ado, Dies at 66

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and pastor Taiwo Adeshina, widely known by fans as Elegbeje Ado.

The respected Yoruba movie star passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 66 years old.

News of his death was confirmed on Tuesday by the founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, in a tribute shared on his Instagram page.

Announcing the actor’s passing, Oloketuyi described Elegbeje Ado as one of the industry’s cherished veterans whose contributions to Yoruba cinema left a lasting impact on audiences and fellow actors alike.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pastor Taiwo Adeshina, a beloved Nollywood legend.

“Your remarkable contributions to Yoruba movie industry and the lives you touched will never be forgotten. May God grant you eternal rest and comfort your family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, legend,” Oloketuyi wrote.

Beyond his acting career, Taiwo Adeshina was also a Christian pastor and remained a respected figure within the Yoruba movie industry, where he built a reputation through decades of memorable performances.

His death marks another significant loss for Nollywood, with colleagues, fans and admirers expected to pay tribute to the veteran actor in the coming days as they celebrate his life and legacy.
