Oyo Abductions: Atiku Aide Urges DSS to Question Sunday Igboho Over Claims of Politicians Behind Kidnappings

Fresh political tension has trailed the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media aide, Paul Ibe called on security agencies to interrogate Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho over his claims about those behind the attacks.

Ibe is urging the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to invite Igboho to disclose any information he may have about the kidnappers responsible for the mass abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Igboho had earlier told members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that he knows politicians allegedly linked to the abductions and warned he would reveal their identities if pressured further. The claim has sparked widespread debate and renewed calls for investigation.

Reacting on social media platform X, Ibe insisted that all credible intelligence must be pursued if it can help secure the safe release of abducted victims still in captivity.

He also questioned the federal government’s handling of a separate incident in Mussa, Borno State, where more than 50 schoolchildren were reportedly kidnapped last month. According to him, the silence from authorities raises concerns about unequal responses to insecurity across the country.

Ibe criticised what he described as a lack of urgency, asking when victims in Borno would receive the same level of attention and intervention as those in Oyo State. He further called for stronger and more coordinated counter-terrorism efforts, including expanded security presence in vulnerable states.

The Oyo abduction has intensified national outrage, with families, unions, and civil society groups demanding swift action as security challenges continue to affect schools and rural communities.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official response to the latest call for Sunday Igboho’s invitation.
