2027: APC to Campaign on Tinubu’s Achievements, Not Fresh Promises — Yari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will base its 2027 presidential campaign on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration rather than making fresh promises, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, has said.

Yari made the statement in Gusau, Zamfara State, after a closed-door meeting with Governor Dauda Lawal and traditional leaders in the state on Wednesday.

The former Zamfara governor said Nigeria had survived several periods of uncertainty that raised questions about the country’s continued existence, but Nigerians had repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to keeping the nation united.

“Nigeria is a wonderful country. We have been seeing so many things which some predicted that Nigeria will not continue as a country, from June 12 to others. This is where we are. Nigerians continue to ensure this country remains a united country,” Yari said.

He said the APC’s campaign would focus on issues and what the Tinubu administration had delivered, rather than presenting voters with another list of promises. Yari also described President Tinubu as a leader committed to Nigeria’s development and said the president had demonstrated his love for the country.

“Tinubu is beyond any other person. He is for Nigerians, and a leader that loves this country without any fear of contradiction,” he said.

Yari explained that his first official engagement as campaign council director-general was with traditional rulers because of their close relationship with communities. Although they are not politicians, he said, traditional leaders remain influential figures who understand the concerns of the people at the grassroots.

He added that seeking the support and blessings of traditional rulers was important to the campaign’s success. Governor Dauda Lawal said the meeting was organised to formally introduce Yari, a Zamfara indigene, to the traditional leaders following his appointment.

Lawal said the meeting was also intended to secure their support for the campaign, assuring the APC presidential campaign council that President Tinubu would receive what he described as 100 per cent support from Zamfara voters in the 2027 presidential election.
