The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State has conducted a fresh primary election for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District, with Dr Ideyi Prince Gamax emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Gamax was the only aspirant at the substitution primary held at the ADC state secretariat on Thursday, August 20, 2026. He secured all 450 votes recorded at the exercise to emerge as the party’s senatorial candidate.

The Returning Officer and Deputy Chairman of the ADC in Ebonyi State, Dr Victor Uduma, said delegates and party members from across Ebonyi South participated in the primary. He described the turnout as an indication of the support Gamax enjoys within the district.

“We had the only candidate here, Dr Ideyi Gamax, who had a total of 450 votes,” Uduma said.

Gamax explained that the fresh exercise was a substitution primary conducted as part of the party’s administrative process. He noted that he had previously emerged as the ADC candidate at an earlier primary held on April 22, 2026.

The new candidate expressed confidence that the ADC could win the Ebonyi South Senate seat in 2027, saying consultations across the senatorial district suggested that residents were seeking a change in representation. He said the party was being viewed as a platform capable of delivering better representation and development.

“Our people are eager for change, and they are looking at ADC as a vehicle to bring about this change and give us the kind of representation that will benefit our people,” Gamax said.

ADC Ebonyi State Chairman, Dr Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, described the exercise as peaceful and said it was monitored by security agencies, the media and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). She explained that the substitution primary followed changes to the party’s earlier process and was conducted on the directive of the national leadership.

Adibe-Nwafor said the August 20 exercise was the authentic substitution primary recognised by the Ebonyi State chapter and would be forwarded to the party’s national leadership. She also dismissed reports of another primary taking place elsewhere, saying she was not aware of any parallel exercise.

The ADC chairman added that the party would also participate in the Ebonyi State local government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026. She expressed optimism that the party would perform strongly in the polls.
