AFRIMMA 2026: Davido, Tems, BNXN Lead Nigeria’s Big Night in Dallas

Nigeria delivered a strong showing at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, with Davido, Tems, BNXN and several other Nigerian stars emerging among the night’s biggest winners.

The September 12 ceremony took place at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas, as AFRIMMA returned to the city after a two-year break. The event was expanded into a wider music and cultural festival featuring African music, fashion, food and entertainment.

Davido was at the heart of Nigeria’s success, with his fifth studio album, 5ive, winning Album of the Year. Released in April 2025, the project features collaborations with international stars including Chris Brown, Victoria Monét, Becky G, Omah Lay and Victony.

The singer entered the ceremony as the leading nominee with five nominations, including Artist of the Year and Best Male West Africa. However, the Artist of the Year award went to Congolese star Fally Ipupa, who also received the Crossing Boundaries with Music honour.

BNXN and producer Sarz secured another major Nigerian victory after their collaboration, “Back Outside,” won Song of the Year. The award highlighted the impact of producer-artiste partnerships in shaping contemporary African music.

Nigeria also claimed several regional and genre awards. Tems won Best Female West Africa, while Ruger took Best Male West Africa. Phyno won Best Male Rap Act, Fola was named Best Newcomer and Mercy Chinwo won Best Gospel. DJ Tunez also took home Best DJ Africa.

Other Nigerian winners included Patoranking for Best Male Reggae/Dancehall, Director Pink for Best Video Director and Real Warri Pikin for Best Stand-Up Comedian. Victony received the Fans Choice Award, while Nasty Blaq, Uche Montana and Victor Osimhen were also recognised. Timaya received the Timeless Impact Award.

AFRIMMA also honoured Government “Tompolo” Ekpemupolo with the Guardian of the Nation Award, recognising his role through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in protecting critical national assets and supporting peace and development in the Niger Delta.

The 2026 edition marked a new direction for AFRIMMA, combining its awards ceremony with a full music festival. Founder Anderson Obiagwu had said the two-year break was aimed at creating a bigger experience, bringing together music, fashion, food and African cultural activities in Dallas.
