Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been named Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Week after producing a match-winning hat-trick for New England Revolution.
Yusuf scored all three goals as New England Revolution defeated D.C. United 3-0 on Wednesday, ending the club’s three-game winless run in emphatic fashion.
The Nigeria international made his impact early, scoring twice in the first half to put the visitors firmly in control. He completed his hat-trick six minutes after the hour mark to round off a dominant individual performance.
The award caps a memorable week for Yusuf, whose goalscoring form has added another dimension to his contribution in midfield. His performance against D.C. United also helped New England secure an important three points in their push up the Eastern Conference standings.
Yusuf has now scored five goals and provided two assists in 20 league appearances for the Revolution this season. His latest display could further strengthen his importance to Marko Mitrović’s side as the campaign progresses.
New England Revolution currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with 33 points from 20 matches, keeping them firmly in contention near the top of the standings.
The Revolution will look to build on the victory when they return to MLS action against New York City FC at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sunday.
For Yusuf, the individual recognition adds to what has been an increasingly productive MLS campaign and underlines his growing influence with both club and country.
