APC Accuses Atiku of Politicising Ebola Response, Says Tinubu’s ₦10bn Emergency Fund Remains Untouched

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of politicising Nigeria’s response to Ebola, insisting that the ₦10 billion emergency fund approved by President Bola Tinubu remains unspent.

APC spokesperson Dele Alake said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant agencies had been relying on existing resources to strengthen surveillance and respond to the reported Ebola case.

The statement followed Atiku’s demand for a detailed account of the emergency allocation, including the amount disbursed, contracts awarded, beneficiaries and supplies delivered.

The former vice-president also questioned the government’s preparedness and handling of the reported case, calling for greater transparency over the use of public funds earmarked for the health emergency.

However, the APC dismissed Atiku’s criticism as politically motivated, maintaining that the government’s response was being supported by resources already available to the relevant agencies.

Despite the party’s assertion that the ₦10 billion remains untouched, the statement did not include financial records or other documentation to independently establish the current status of the fund.

The disagreement has raised questions about public accountability and the financing of Nigeria’s response to a potential health threat. If the allocation remains unspent, details of where the money is being held and how ongoing response activities are being financed could help clarify the situation.

The release of relevant financial records and a detailed breakdown of the allocation would provide the public with a clearer picture of how the emergency response is being funded and managed.
