The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Saturday, August 22, 2026, as the date for its primary elections to select candidates for newly restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as legislative bye-elections across four states.

The party disclosed the timetable in a schedule of activities signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and released on Wednesday.

The APC said the primaries were organised following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states.

The restored constituencies include Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, alongside Yagba West II in Kogi State.

The party also included legislative bye-election positions in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states. The affected areas are Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, Udu State Constituency in Delta, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

According to the APC timetable, sales of nomination forms began on Tuesday, August 18, and will close on Thursday, August 20. Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms and supporting documents before the deadline.

The party scheduled screening of candidates, release of screening results and appeals arising from the process for Friday, August 21, ahead of the primary elections on Saturday. Appeals from aspirants will be considered on Monday, August 24.

For the financial requirements, House of Assembly aspirants are expected to pay N1 million for expression of interest and N5 million for nomination, bringing the total cost to N6 million. House of Representatives aspirants will pay N1 million for expression of interest and N9 million for nomination.

The party stated that female candidates, youths and physically challenged aspirants would pay the expression of interest fee and 50 per cent of the nomination fee for their respective positions.

The development follows court decisions that led to the restoration of the suppressed constituencies, allowing residents of the affected areas to regain direct representation in their state legislatures.

The APC timetable also covers the bye-election for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, which became vacant after the death of the former lawmaker representing the area, Tongo Yaya.
