Fresh tension has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress after the party released the names of senatorial aspirants barred from participating in its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC disclosed the development in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, confirming that some aspirants failed to scale the party’s screening process conducted in line with its internal guidelines.
According to the statement, the screening committees reviewed the qualifications and eligibility of aspirants seeking the party’s senatorial tickets across the country before arriving at the final decision.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby releases the list of senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the Party’s Senate Primary Elections,” the statement read.
“The screening exercise was conducted by the Party’s Screening Committees in accordance with established procedures and guidelines,” the party added.
The announcement comes as political activities intensify across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties finalising candidates for various elective positions.
The development is expected to trigger fresh reactions within the APC, especially from affected aspirants and their supporters, as some party members have already raised concerns over transparency and internal democracy during the ongoing primaries.
In recent days, several APC primaries across different states have been rocked by allegations of irregularities, intimidation, and imposition of candidates, deepening internal divisions within the party.
The APC, however, has maintained that its screening and primary processes are being conducted in line with the party constitution and electoral guidelines.
