The Enugu State Forest Guard has introduced a comprehensive operational order establishing new standards for uniforms, dress code, discipline, grooming and professional conduct as part of efforts to strengthen the Corps’ operational efficiency and public image.
The directive, titled Headquarters Standing Operational Order No. 178/2026, was announced in Enugu by the Commander of the Enugu State Forest Guard, Dr. Akinbayo Olasoji, who said the reforms are in line with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision of building a disciplined, technology-driven and intelligence-led security architecture for the state.
In a statement issued by Assistant Superintendent of Forest Guard Geraldine Chiagozie, the Corps said the new policy forms part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at improving discipline, reinforcing command and control, and creating a distinct corporate identity for officers and operatives.
According to the statement, the operational order prescribes approved uniforms for specific days, field attire for bush-combing operations, standards for rank insignia, lanyards, footwear and personal grooming. It also introduces separate dress guidelines for administrative officers and members of the Provost Unit to ensure easy identification and professional appearance.
The Forest Guard further banned the use of unauthorized uniforms, civilian clothing while on official duty without approval, unapproved footwear and the public display of improvised wooden weapons during official assignments. It stressed that only uniforms, equipment and accoutrements approved by the Corps headquarters would be permitted during official operations.
To ensure compliance, directors, senatorial commanders, zonal commanders, heads of departments, unit commanders and sector officers have been directed to carry out routine inspections before patrols, bush-combing exercises, ceremonial events, media engagements and other official duties. The Provost Unit has also been tasked with enforcing the new regulations across all commands.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Dr. Olasoji said professionalism begins with appearance, noting that a disciplined security organisation should be immediately identifiable by its smart turnout and operational readiness.
“Discipline begins with appearance. A professional security organization must be instantly recognized by its smart turnout, uniformity, discipline and operational readiness. This Standing Operational Order is not merely about uniforms; it is about strengthening our institutional culture, promoting accountability, reinforcing public confidence and ensuring that every officer represents the Government of Enugu State with dignity, honour and professionalism,” he said.
The Forest Guard commander reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to institutional reforms, intelligence-led security operations, respect for the rule of law and collaboration with communities and other security agencies to improve safety across Enugu State.
The new operational order takes immediate effect, with all commands and units directed to ensure full compliance.
