NDC Ends Presidential Expression of Interest Form Sales, Extends Deadline for Governorship, Senate Aspirants Ahead of 2027 Elections

Fresh momentum is building within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party officially closed the sale of Expression of Interest Forms for presidential aspirants preparing for the 2027 general elections.

The party, however, announced an extension for aspirants contesting other elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly seats, shifting the deadline from May 17 to May 24, 2026.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja by the NDC National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, who confirmed that the party had moved into the next phase of its internal electoral process.

According to the statement, screening and pre-qualification interviews for aspirants who have successfully purchased and completed their Expression of Interest Forms will commence on Tuesday and run until May 26.

The party further revealed that the collection and submission of Nomination Forms for aspirants who pass the screening process will begin on Wednesday and close on May 26.

NDC warned that there would be no additional extension beyond the newly approved deadline, urging all aspirants to strictly comply with the timetable and submission requirements to avoid disqualification.

As part of the screening process, aspirants are expected to appear before designated panels across the country with key documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or age declarations, passport photographs, voter cards, party membership cards and detailed curriculum vitae. The party added that all documents must be submitted in six copies.

The statement explained that aspirants would be assessed based on factors such as competence, public acceptance, local political realities, character and leadership capacity. The Screening Committee, according to the party, will also consider its affirmative action policy designed to encourage the participation of women, youths and persons living with disabilities.

The NDC also urged aspirants to embrace dialogue and consensus-building where necessary, stressing that only candidates cleared through the screening exercise would qualify to purchase Nomination Forms ahead of the party primaries.ex-wife/
