The political race for Ogun State in 2027 has begun to take shape as the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, has officially announced his intention to contest again for the state’s top job.

Adebutu made his declaration through a formal letter addressed to the PDP leadership at both state and local government levels, signalling an early start to what is expected to be a competitive election cycle in Ogun State.

The letter, dated April 30, 2026, was submitted to the Ogun State PDP Chairman via the party leadership in Odogbolu Local Government Area and was released to the media through his aide, Afolabi Orekoya.

In the correspondence, Adebutu expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters for their continued loyalty, while urging unity within the party as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, noting that his renewed ambition is driven by a desire to build on previous experience and deliver more effective governance for the people of Ogun State.

Adebutu, who also contested the governorship in the last election, stressed that his political journey within the party has been rooted in consistency, loyalty, and long-term engagement with grassroots structures.

He emphasised that his vision for the state focuses on continuity, inclusive governance, and policies that prioritise citizens’ welfare and economic development.

The PDP chieftain also appealed to stakeholders across all factions of the party to put aside internal differences and work towards a unified front, describing cohesion as critical to electoral success.

He assured party members of his readiness to collaborate widely within the PDP structure, adding that collective effort would be essential in securing victory at the polls.

The declaration is expected to further energise political activities within the state as parties begin early positioning for the 2027 governorship contest.
