Osun 2026: INEC Says 1.9 Million PVCs Collected Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, leaving 432,843 PVCs, or 18.50 per cent, still uncollected.

INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee chairman, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed the figures in a statement issued on Friday.

Haruna said the uncollected PVCs had been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with the commission’s established procedures.

He also disclosed that some registered voters whose PVCs were lost, damaged or defaced applied for replacement cards. Of those applicants, 6,101 people printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.

To improve transparency ahead of the election, INEC has published a polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown showing the number of collected PVCs across Osun State. The commission said the data would give stakeholders a clearer picture of voter registration and PVC collection in each polling unit.

With the election just days away, INEC said it had completed preparations for the poll and assured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and voters of its readiness.

“The commission reassures political parties, civil society organisations, media, and the good people of Osun state of its total readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive election on Saturday, 15th August 2026,” Haruna said.

The Osun governorship election will take place on Saturday, with registered voters expected to choose the state’s next governor from the candidates contesting the poll.
