A fresh political contest is taking shape in Imo State as former deputy governor Eze Madumere formally signalled his ambition to represent Owerri Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly, positioning himself as a candidate of experience, structure, and grassroots appeal ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists in Owerri, Madumere framed his entry into the race as a response to what he described as a pressing need for a “paradigm shift” in leadership within the zone. Running under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he urged stakeholders and voters to remain focused, insisting that a “new dawn” built on inclusive and impactful governance is within reach.
At the core of his campaign, he said, is a policy blueprint tailored to the realities of the constituency. Drawing from his background in business development and governance, Madumere argued that Owerri deserves representation that is both people-driven and results-oriented, rather than experimental.
He also defended his choice of the PDP, describing the party as a grassroots-based platform with national spread and a strong base of progressive thinkers. According to him, the party offers the structure needed to mobilise support and deliver electoral success in the senatorial contest.
Madumere revealed that his immediate strategy will focus on consultations, stakeholder engagement, and voter mobilisation across the district. He expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket, citing his political experience, network, and long-standing relationship with the people.
“I am determined and resolute,” he said, noting that ultimate victory would depend on the electorate. He added that his campaign would appeal directly to the conscience of voters, whom he described as the true deciders of political outcomes.
Beyond the campaign rhetoric, the former deputy governor promised a shift in legislative representation if elected, pledging to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and human capital growth. He maintained that Owerri Senatorial Zone must send its “best” to the Senate in the next political cycle.
He further emphasised that his track record in public service positions him as a tested and trusted leader capable of confronting the challenges facing the constituency. According to him, his goal is to deliver a new standard of representation anchored on accountability, innovation, and measurable impact.
Madumere concluded by expressing optimism that with public support, his vision for the constituency can translate into tangible outcomes, assuring constituents of what he described as “conscientious and tireless service” if elected in 2027.
