Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Motorcycle Theft Ring in Sokoto, Recover Stolen Bikes

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested three suspects linked to an alleged motorcycle theft and stolen property network operating in parts of Sokoto State.

The arrests were carried out by the Command’s Strike Force Unit after police received intelligence from a resident about suspicious criminal activities involving stolen motorcycles within the state.

Police spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said the operation took place on May 23, 2026, following coordinated raids across Kano Road, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare, and Gidan Man Ada.

According to the command, one of the suspects, Yahuza Abubakar from Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was first apprehended during the operation.

Investigators said Abubakar allegedly confessed during interrogation to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle before selling it to another suspect.

The confession reportedly led detectives to Alhaji Samaila Aliyu of Gidan Igwai, who was arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle. During the investigation, officers also recovered an ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle from him.

Police later tracked and arrested another suspect, Ahmed Abdullahi from the Gawon Nama area, after discovering that the stolen Kasea motorcycle had allegedly been resold to him.

Authorities confirmed the recovery of the red Kasea motorcycle, the ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle, and two master keys believed to have been used in the theft operations.

The police said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspects are connected to a wider motorcycle theft syndicate operating within Sokoto and neighbouring communities.

The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
