A leadership shake-up has been reported within the Progressive Governors Forum, with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah allegedly emerging as the new chairman following a disputed meeting of All Progressives Congress governors in Abuja.
The development is said to have followed claims that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma was removed from his position as chairman of the influential political body, though the forum has strongly denied any such change.
According to reports, the decision was reached during an extraordinary gathering of about 20 APC governors held on Thursday night in Abuja. The meeting was said to have drawn several high-profile state leaders, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.
Sources cited by local media claimed that Governor Mbah was selected to take over leadership of the forum during the meeting, which reportedly focused on internal party coordination and leadership structure ahead of future political alignments.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum has dismissed the report as false. In a statement issued by its Director General, Folorunso Aluko, the forum insisted that no such meeting took place and that Governor Uzodinma remains the legitimate chairman.
Despite the denial, a separate source familiar with the development maintained that the meeting did occur at the Ogun State Government Lodge in Abuja, further deepening uncertainty over what transpired behind closed doors.
The conflicting accounts have fuelled speculation within political circles, with observers noting that any leadership adjustment within the forum could have wider implications for internal APC dynamics and future strategic positioning.
As the controversy continues, no official confirmation has been issued by the governors reportedly involved, leaving the true status of the forum’s leadership in dispute.
