A powerful windstorm has left a trail of destruction across several communities in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, destroying homes, food storage facilities, and property worth millions of naira.
The affected communities include Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro, and Ciwan Wanzam, where residents are now counting losses after the severe weather event struck on Wednesday night.
The Member representing Suru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, confirmed the incident after visiting the affected areas to assess the damage and sympathise with victims.
He said the windstorm caused widespread destruction, leaving many families displaced after their homes were either damaged or completely blown away. Despite the scale of destruction, he confirmed that no lives were lost.
Maisudan described the situation as deeply unfortunate and urged residents to remain calm, calling on them to see the incident as a test and remain hopeful in the face of hardship.
“My heart goes out to you in this difficult moment, and I urge you to accept it as a trial from Almighty Allah,” he said during his visit to the affected communities.
The lawmaker also assured victims that he would present the matter before the State Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris to ensure urgent government intervention and relief support.
“I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay,” he added.
Officials from the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency accompanied the assessment team and pledged swift response efforts, including the provision of relief materials to affected households.
As residents begin to rebuild, the incident has renewed calls for stronger emergency preparedness and support systems to cushion communities against recurring natural disasters
