Reps Order IGP to Produce Alleged PFIPC Fraud Mastermind Before Committee Over Fake Presidential Council

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to produce the alleged mastermind behind the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Mr. Adeyemi Martin, before its investigative committee on Wednesday.

The order was issued on Monday during the ongoing probe into the disputed council after the Nigeria Police Force confirmed key findings from its criminal investigation. The police told lawmakers that the case stems from petitions submitted by the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

The petitions accuse Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, raising concerns about the authenticity of documents and official representations linked to the alleged scheme.

Chairman of the House committee, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, said Adeyemi’s appearance had become essential because of the serious allegations and the potential impact on both individuals and government institutions.

“This committee clearly needs the suspected DG to appear before this committee. People’s names are involved. People’s integrity are involved. Institutional names are involved. Institutional integrity is involved,” Gagdi said.

He added: “It is not an option now. We will need him here to confirm some documents to us in such a way that will not undermine our investigation to enable us to submit our report on time.”

The committee subsequently directed its clerk to formally notify the Inspector-General of Police, instructing him to ensure the suspect appears before lawmakers by 12 noon on Wednesday.

Earlier, Assistant Commissioner of Police Basir Abdullahi, who represented the IGP at the hearing, informed the committee that although investigations remain ongoing, the Nigeria Police Force has already filed an eight-count criminal charge against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court.

The House investigation is expected to determine how the alleged fake presidential council operated, identify those involved, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents from undermining public institutions.
