Sophia Momodu Opens Up About Emotional Abuse After Pregnancy for Davido

Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Sophia Momodu has opened up about the emotional and psychological abuse she said she experienced after becoming pregnant out of wedlock for singer Davido.

Momodu spoke at a United Nations General Assembly event in New York on Monday, where she reflected on the public criticism and personal struggles she faced after becoming pregnant.

The mother of Davido’s first daughter, Imade Adeleke, said she was mocked because she was a pastor’s daughter who had a child outside marriage.

She described the experience as deeply traumatic, saying the criticism affected her confidence and made it difficult for her to express herself despite being a well-known public figure.

“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crazy. I had to find myself in the midst of all that,” Momodu said.

According to her, the constant negative criticism left her feeling drained and caused her to lose her voice for a period. She said the situation was made worse by the perception that having a child outside marriage was particularly shameful for the daughter of a pastor.

“For a long time, I didn’t have a voice despite being famous. I was worried and getting drained by the negative criticisms,” she said.

Momodu said she eventually began to reclaim her voice after repeatedly being told to remain silent because of the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. Her remarks focused on the personal impact of public judgment and the process of rebuilding her confidence after the experience.
