TCN Begins Rehabilitation of Four Vandalised Transmission Towers in Rivers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the rehabilitation of four transmission towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line in Rivers State.

TCN disclosed this in a statement issued by its management, saying the damage was discovered during an inspection carried out by engineers from its Port Harcourt Region.

The affected structures are Towers T50 to T53, which the company said were vandalised after their tower members were removed and carted away.

According to TCN, the damage was discovered on August 6, 2026, during an inspection of the transmission line by its engineers.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently rehabilitating four towers vandalised along the Afam-IPP-Elelenwo 132kV Double-Circuit Transmission Line. The incident was discovered on August 6, 2026, by the company’s lines engineers from the Port Harcourt Region,” the statement said.

The company described the latest incident as the fifth reported vandalism attack on the same transmission line in recent times.

TCN said rehabilitation work was already underway as it works to restore the affected infrastructure and maintain the reliability of the transmission network.

“As rehabilitation work progresses, we enjoin all stakeholders to join hands to curb the menace that is threatening the stability of the national grid,” the company said.

The transmission company also urged stakeholders and communities to support efforts to protect electricity infrastructure from further vandalism, warning that repeated attacks could pose challenges to the stability and reliability of the national grid.
