Wike Slams Fubara, Says Rivers Governor Prioritising Second Term Over Budget Submission

A fresh political clash has emerged between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over governance priorities in the oil-rich state.

Wike accused Fubara of focusing on re-election politics while allegedly failing to carry out a key constitutional duty: presenting the state budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during a press briefing in Abuja, where he expressed concern over what he described as misplaced priorities by the governor.

According to Wike, governance in Rivers State is being overshadowed by political ambition, warning that such an approach could affect public service delivery.

“The governor is yet to submit his budget to the House of Assembly but he is busy running for second term ambition,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor argued that failure to present the budget on time could disrupt government operations and slow down development projects across the state.

He maintained that effective governance requires strict attention to administrative responsibilities, rather than early campaign activities.

Wike’s comments add another layer to the long-running political tension between both men, which has continued to shape the political landscape in Rivers State.

The exchange is likely to intensify scrutiny of the state’s governance process as stakeholders await further developments from the Rivers State government.
