Former United States President Barack Obama has praised the Democratic Party following its major victories over President Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the just-concluded midterm elections.
Obama said the election results showed that Americans wanted political leaders who could unite the country, provide practical solutions and put public service ahead of political division.
In a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, the former president congratulated Democratic candidates who secured victories across different parts of the country, including states traditionally considered Republican strongholds.
He noted that the party’s success reflected the efforts of candidates from diverse backgrounds who shared a commitment to representing their communities and serving the public.
“The American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face,” Obama said.
DAILY POST reports that Democrats secured control of both the US House of Representatives and the Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections, marking a major setback for Trump’s administration.
Trump had earlier congratulated the Democrats on their victories but insisted that the results did not mean Americans had rejected his leadership.
The US president attributed the Republican Party’s losses partly to rising gasoline prices, arguing that Americans were unwilling to bear higher fuel costs amid the war in Iran.
